New Muon powertrain promises a complete, safe and reduced-cost solution for niche vehicles

Muon has partnered with Rock Engineering to develop a new high-safety integrated VCU and electric drive for agricultural, industrial, and lightweight vehicles.

Visitors to Cenex Expo 2025 were able to see the MU Powertrain in action, providing electric PTO power on the Dynium small tractor.

The technology is aimed at vehicle manufacturers looking to grow their L category, niche or specialist vehicle offerings, or accelerate their electrification programmes.

Developed with grant funding from Niche Vehicle Network, the MU Powertrain is a safe, reliable and complete vehicle control and drive system for light vehicles, specialist applications or niche vehicles. Combining VCU, inverter and motor, it helps to reduce complexity, cost, and integration time, while remaining safe and reliable.

The technology offers ISO26262 capability, vehicle and ancillary control, and advanced processing capabilities from a single package, meaning reduced costs and a quicker time to market without compromising the safety, reliability or feature set of the vehicle.

Muon Founding Director, Robin Boyd, said: “In our consultancy work, we see niche, specialist and small vehicle manufacturers having to use mixed sets of components borrowed from other segments or industries.  We developed the MU Powertrain to give vehicle manufacturers a safe, reliable and complete solution, designed specifically for their needs.”
