Challenge

Maeving approached Muon with a vision for an elegant, urban electric motorcycle and sought advice for developing its electronics architecture and functionality. They needed a technical partner who could:

• Design a fully customised electrical system aligned with their desired user experience • Integrate various hardware components and identify and solve technical gaps

• Design a customised battery management system to support dual removable batteries

• Deliver a solution manufacturable at volume without escalating cost

Solution

Muon Tech supported Maeving through the full product lifecycle:

• Scoped and defined the vehicle’s electrical architecture from first principles

• Mapped hardware interactions and evaluated available components

• Identified a critical functionality gap in dual battery control and proposed a custom control unit

• Consolidated additional features into this unit to reduce overall system cost and complexity

• Designed, prototyped, and iteratively tested the custom ECU and software

• Collaborated with Maeving’s volume manufacturing partner to transition the design to production

Impact

Thanks to Muon's end-to-end involvement, the solution achieved:

• Type Approval: The ECU and software system is now fully certified and in volume production across Maeving’s fleet. 

• Commercial Success: Maeving motorcycles equipped with this system won the Urban Electric Bike of the Year award in 2024. 

• Cost-optimisation: Reduced total system BOM and complexity through smart consolidation of features into a single custom unit. 

• Accelerated Time to Market: Muon's integrated approach helped Maeving go from concept to compliant production rapidly.
